Lines

Line art also known as line drawing can be describe as any image that consists of straight and curved lines drew or placed on a background usually white background. Line art can use lines of different colours altough it is usually black and white also known as monochrome.

A pure line art will not have gradations in shade and colours to represent the two and three dimensional objects. They just use line in different thickness and they play around with the width of the line. A series of dots can be used in addition to lines.

Line is considered as the most basic element of art. Since we were young we often use lines to draw and describe an object or to draw from observation. Remember when you were in pre-school, the teacher gave you a pencil and a paper and they asked you to draw a house? Your drawing will consist of only straight lines forming a house.

Lines can also help us to understand the past better. Archeologist found some drawings drawn with stones on the wall of caves. The cavemen use lines to draw horses, men, dog and many more to tell  story about their life. Long ago it is said that cavemen did not have a shared language so they drew as a way to communicate.  As you can see, lines play an important role in our life.
